A chance encounter

 The Year 8 pupils had a rare chance to journey out for an extended Outdoor session on a Friday. This gave them the opportunity to climb to the top of Worcestershire.

We parked at Hay Slad spring, where the class were fascinated to see a lady filling many bottles of water. They asked lots of questions and were extremely polite during this impromptu quizzing. (Afterwards the lady commented on the positive behaviour of the class to the very proud staff present!)

As the class scaled the 425 metres to the summit of the Worcester Beacon they were amazed to see a group of paragliders waiting for the perfect gust of wind to take off and begin a lazy circle around the Beacon and beyond.

This offered a great opportunity to discuss a wide range of topics;
How they stay afloat? Weather conditions that are conducive to the sport. The feeling of both fear and exhilaration the participants must experience. The cost of the sport and route to access it.

All of these questions whilst the pupils were enthralled by the growing group of paragliders swirling around in the air above.

Eventually after a steady trudge in the warm sunshine, the whole class made it to became the highest class in Worcestershire for a brief while.
